Description

The Senior Director of Individual Giving will lead Hot Bread Kitchen’s Individual Giving program, a critical component in growing the organization’s $11 million+ annual revenue. This role will also serve as lead on all events, including Hot Bread Kitchen’s annual Breadwinners Benefit, as well as on the organization’s first capital campaign, which will start in the coming year.

Reporting to the Chief Strategy & Advancement Officer (CSAO), the role will grow and diversify the organization’s individual donor base, which includes principal and major gifts, the Annual Breadwinners Benefit, the annual fund, and engagement of the Young Professionals Committee. The Senior Director will manage one direct report, the Director of Individual Giving. The successful candidate will be an experienced individual donor fundraiser with a successful history of securing major gifts, developing effective donor engagement strategies, and managing events. They will bring a passion for relationship-building, data-driven decision-making, and advancing equity through philanthropy.


Responsibilities

Program Leadership

  • Develop and implement strategies to grow individual giving revenue, focusing on securing transformational and major multi-year gifts.

  • Collaborate with the CSAO to set annual fundraising goals and key performance indicators (KPIs) for the Individual Giving team.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Individual Giving program, including donor prospecting, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.

  • Supervise and provide strategic guidance to the Director of Individual Giving and other team members in identifying and stewarding a major gift portfolio, targeting new long-term donors.

  • They will ensure donors and prospects at all levels have customized and proactive cultivation and stewardship strategies.

  • Commit to and actively support a Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Allyship culture in all aspects of work.

Donor Engagement

  • Manage a portfolio of principal individual donors and prospects to build multi-year, comprehensive partnerships that include financial and programmatic support, with engagement from cross-functional colleagues and the executive team.

  • Collaborate and support the CSAO on board activities, including board giving, prospecting, and meetings.

  • Collaborate with the Brand team to develop compelling donor-facing materials and messaging.

Breadwinners Benefit

  • Oversee the success and execution of the Breadwinners Benefit held annually in the spring.

  • They will work directly with an external event production company and internally lead the Development and Brand team to implement a fundraising strategy to raise a $1MM+ goal, which includes: Work with the individual giving team to draft or copy edit all formal benefit communications to secure honorees, co-chairs, sponsors, and other stakeholders.

  • Oversee sponsorship requests by institutional giving team.

  • Partner with the Brand team to develop benefit collateral (e.g. save the dates, response forms, sponsorship templates and landing pages), menu development and chef engagement.

  • Oversee external event consultant to execute on weekly meetings, event logistics, vendor management and program design.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Program and Executive Teams to enhance donor experiences at events and other touchpoints.

Capital Campaign

Oversee the success and execution of an upcoming capital campaign in partnership with an external consultant, the CSAO, and key Advancement Team members.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Oversight of campaign reporting, communications, and executing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities in partnership with senior development and executive team members.

  • Develop relationships with key prospects, donors, and other stakeholders for long-term mission engagement.

  • Strategize and implement donor recognition opportunities.

  • Collaborate with the Brand Team to manage all media and other communications needs, including developing promotional materials.

  • Provide on-site leadership for all staff in educating them about the capital campaign and its importance to the organization's growth.

  • Manage and develop solutions for needs and challenges during a multi-year campaign.


Requirements

  • Passionate about Hot Bread Kitchen’s mission and programs.

  • Progressive experience in individual giving is required, with an ideal tenure of at least 6-8 years.

  • Proven ability to secure major gifts and design comprehensive donor engagement strategies. Keen emotional intelligence with strong people management skills.

  • Experience supervising and mentoring staff is required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling donor messaging.

  • Strong prioritization, analytical, and organizational skills to enable sound decision-making.

  • Proficient in technology and comfortable with tools such as Salesforce, Asana, and Slack.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

This is a full-time position with a salary range between $110,000 - $125,000.

Hot Bread Kitchen's comprehensive benefits package includes health/vision/dental insurance (eligible from day one), 401K contributions, paid office closure days (including holidays and staff appreciation days, and a one-week holiday break at the end of the year), flexible and generous vacation and sick time, paid parental leave, and a sabbatical program (after 5 years of service).
