Reporting Relationship

The Manager, Planned Giving, is on the Development, Marketing and Events (DME) team and will report to the Director, Planned Giving.

Position Overview

The Manager, Planned Giving, will implement and further develop key planned giving initiatives in support of Robin Hood’s ambitious fundraising program to achieve its mission of elevating New Yorkers out of poverty. Given the nature of this role and its multiple responsibilities, flexibility and time management skills are essential. This includes focusing on frontline fundraising efforts for annual, planned and blended gifts as well as continuing to help refine an effective planned giving prospect pipeline.

This position will additionally require a high level of project management including collaborating with a host of interested parties to create effective planned giving marketing touchpoints; working with legal teams, financial advisors and other parties to realize planned gifts; successfully launching and executing planned giving/loyalty donor events and other additional administrative needs as required.

The ideal candidate has a strong interest in learning about planned giving, a proven track record in successfully working with donors (solicitations, stewardship and cultivation), and both a sensitivity and ability to work with Robin Hood supporters of all ages.

Responsibilities

Donor Outreach

  • Manage portfolio of 50 assigned donors.

  • Secure present, future, and blended gifts through solicitations by personalized contact with phone calls, correspondence and visits with donors and if deemed helpful in collaboration with Director, Planned Giving as well as other frontline fundraisers.

  • Develop donor follow-up plans, implement relationship management strategies and timetables for planned giving prospects.

  • Provide a timely, thoughtful and professional response to planned giving inquiries received by phone, direct mail, emails, and surveys.

  • Work with unassigned donors to expand planned giving donor pipeline through a moves management system to generate a conversion of prospects to committed planned giving donors.

  • Steward planned giving donors (members of Archer Legacy Society) through in‐person contacts, telephone, email and correspondence, events-invitations, and other recognition mechanisms.

  • Manage recognition listings in annual report for Archer Legacy Society members ensuring timely donor approval.

  • Manage and support the execution of Planned Giving events by collaborating with events team and other colleagues.

  • Attend Robin Hood events to continue cultivating and stewarding relationships with both known planned giving donors and prospects.

Planned Giving Marketing

  • Manage planned giving marketing campaigns including working directly with marketing consultants.

  • Manage production of two newsletters a year (both print and digital versions); produce email blasts related to planned giving topics as well as other applicable touchpoints.

  • Develop in collaboration with Director of Planned Giving, yearly planned giving marketing calendar.

  • Partner with Robin Hood marketing and communications teams as required to produce planned giving marketing touchpoints.

  • Monitor the planned giving microsite on Robin Hood website and manage updates as necessary.

  • Provide innovative and strategic ideas for furtherance of expanding the planned giving marketing program.

Administrative

  • Manage the administration of estate distributions to successfully fulfil receipt of gift expectancies in a timely manner.

  • Liaise and coordinate, under the direction of the Director of Planned Giving, with estate executors, lawyers, legal administrators, financial advisors and other parties as needed to support the liquidation and release of assets directed to Robin Hood through other planned giving vehicles.

  • Collaborate concurrently with Robin Hood’s legal team as required to ensure successful distribution of planned gifts.

  • Oversee and collaborate with other members of the Development Operations team maintenance of the Salesforce database for assigned prospects and donors and initiate updates on a rolling basis and as needed.

  • Work directly with solicitors in collaboration with members of the development operations team for yearly maintenance of planned giving donors, prospects and candidates receiving marketing touchpoints.

Other

  • Strong desire to continuously refine and expand knowledge of planned giving through courses and other opportunities (conferences).

  • Partner with the Director of Planned Giving and other development colleagues to identify and capitalize on innovative planned giving initiatives to benefit the program further.

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum 4–7 years of experience working with donors as a general frontline fundraiser with a successful and proven track record for closing gifts.

  • Experience in marketing, major gifts, planned giving and/or wealth management is a plus.

  • Strong interest and desire to learn about both planned giving and current general philanthropy trends to continue to refine and enhance fundraising skills.

  • Highly comfortable interacting with donors of all ages either in 1-1 or larger group settings (events).

  • Strong time management skills and adept at pivoting to manage shifting priorities.

  • A high level of energy, self-confidence, initiative, and persistence in follow-through.

  • Ability to communicate complex issues in an easily understandable language.

  • A self-starter with sound judgement and attention to detail.

  • Result-oriented with ability to focus on and meet both deadlines and goals.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, and emotional intelligence.

  • Strong relationship-building skills with the ability to engage, cultivate, and steward donors, including high-net-worth individuals.

  • Strong writing skills to craft compelling donor correspondence, newsletters, and stewardship materials.

  • Experience with CRM systems, preferably Salesforce or other donor management databases.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

Salary commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications. Robin Hood also offers a full and competitive benefits package that includes, medical, dental and vision insurance, generous retirement contributions, eligibility to participate in paid medical, family and parental leave programs, professional development, cell phone reimbursement, and full-time employees start with 20 days of Paid Time Off (prorated). Eligible for a performance bonus.

The salary range for this position is $96,000 - $120,000.

This position is located in New York City and will have a hybrid work schedule.
