Reporting to the Vice President, Strategic Philanthropic Initiatives, the National Director, Strategic Philanthropic Communications will serve as a key partner in the creation of donor-centric messaging for the highest organizational priorities. The National Director will lead the development and execution of comprehensive fundraising communications strategies and the creation of timely and high-quality fundraising communications that convey the relevance, need, and impact of donor support toward advancing Breakthrough T1D’s mission.

Critical to these efforts, the National Director will partner broadly with fundraising and program-area leaders across the organization and external high-level volunteers and partners to design and execute fundraising communications collateral for global development donor engagement and stewardship strategies that are part of a 5-year comprehensive campaign. The National Director will partner with their direct reports and the Marketing & Communications department to ensure all materials are aligned with Breakthrough T1D’s look, feel, tone and strategic communications priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Develops ongoing and comprehensive campaign communications strategies and messaging - direct strategies across fundraising verticals and giving levels all phases of the comprehensive campaign.

  • Acts as lead for all executive major gift and campaign communications, including updates, donor briefs and personalized communications and ensure that they are consistent in tone, priorities and messaging.

  • Leads and/or manages the development and creation of campaign communications and talking points for C-suite and Campaign Cabinet cultivation of prospects and donors - produces engaging and effective campaign fundraising communications personalized to individual voices while staying consistent with organizational brand and campaign messaging.

  • Develops philanthropic communications for global audiences that ensure communications reach diverse cultures and engage them meaningfully, thoughtfully, and appropriately.

  • Directs and manages assigned staff workflows for the writing and project management of personalized proposals as well as impact and stewardship reports for campaign, principal, and major gift donors.

  • Collaborates with direct reports and other staff in the development of annual strategic fundraising and stewardship communications plans.

  • Identifies, recommends and coordinates opportunities for increased relationship-building through donor outreach and fundraising communications; creates language, messaging, and templates for internal use as appropriate.

  • Writes and collaborates on media relations and communications for campaign and other principal and major gift announcements.

  • Provides writing support for the development of gift proposals to engage donors and prospects in philanthropic opportunities for principal gift donors.

  • Provides writing support for the development of personalized impact and stewardship reports for principal gift donors.

  • Reviews and edits written materials to ensure quality and consistency. Maintains and communicates campaign writing and design standards.

  • Works, if/as needed, with outside vendors–designers, other writers, printers on the design and production of principal gift donor and campaign communication materials.

  • Manages production of various fundraising communication products concurrently; coordinates reviews by key stakeholders and incorporate feedback, oversees schedules, and adheres to deadlines.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • 8 years of professional experience in development communications, marketing, or related field.

  • Experience in fundraising or nonprofit management. Comprehensive campaign experience preferred.

  • Experience in fundraising communications for global audiences. Supervisory experience.

  • Excellent management, coaching, mentoring, leadership, and team-building skills. Excellent project management skills and attention to detail; ability to manage, delegate and support multiple projects with various stakeholders.

  • Excellent communication skills, including writing, editing, proofreading and verbal.

  • Experience preparing PowerPoint presentations, talking points, and other materials for various audiences.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint). Experience with Salesforce or other database platforms.

  • Ability to serve as a strategic thinker, capable of providing proactive solutions to challenges and opportunities.

  • Ability to work with stakeholders at all levels – including Breakthrough T1D leadership, development officers and volunteers.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, and ability to form and sustain working relationships within a complex organization. Experience demonstrating accountability and follow-through.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and data security. College degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

$104,000 - $140,000
