The Honnold Foundation is seeking a Development Manager with experience growing, cultivating and managing relationships with a community of passionate supporters. The Development Manager joins the team at a pivotal moment in our organizational trajectory; HF’s annual grantmaking budget has the potential to double in the next two years, powered by a growing movement of grassroots solar energy advocates.

Working alongside HF’s Executive Director and Senior Manager of Partnerships, this role will help expand our budget to support $4 million in grantmaking annually. The Development Manager joins the team at a pivotal moment in our organizational trajectory; HF’s annual grantmaking budget has the potential to double in the next two years, powered by a growing movement of grassroots solar energy advocates. Working alongside HF’s Executive Director and Senior Manager of Partnerships, this role will help expand our budget to support $4 million in grantmaking annually.

The ideal candidate for this role will be deeply passionate about energy equity and community-centered climate solutions, and capable of conveying that dedication to a diverse range of stakeholders, in written and in-person communications. A highly organized self-starter, this candidate will be familiar enough with fundraising and development strategies to help HF stand out from the crowd.

Responsibilities

Donor Cultivation

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of donors and prospects with the potential to make mid-level (4-5 figure) gifts to the Honnold Foundation

  • Plan and execute 4-5 “friendraiser” style donor events annually to engage and cultivate relationships with existing and new members of the HF community

  • Identify potential donors and funding agencies and research them to understand their interests and giving capacity

  • Develop and implement personalized donor engagement and stewardship strategies to build long-term relationships In collaboration with other members of HF’s development team, manage and grow HF’s crowdfunding program

  • Craft compelling grant proposals and communications assets to represent HF online and at in person events

  • Represent HF at public events and speaking engagements as needed

Database Support & Administration

  • Support the creation and management of an annual donor communications timeline, including newsletters, impact reports, and personalized donor correspondence

  • Collaborate with the communications team to ensure consistent and compelling messaging across all donor touchpoints

  • Utilize Salesforce NPSP to track donor interactions and update records

  • Analyze donor data to identify giving trends and inform ongoing fundraising strategy and tactics

  • Work alongside the development team to send donor receipts and thank you letters

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in development roles, with a proven track record of cultivating successful donations

  • Experience managing 4-5 figure gifts and crowdfunding initiatives

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent overall experience

  • Demonstrated commitment to HF’s mission and global environmental justice via past work and/or volunteer experience

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment

  • Strong problem-solving skills and a fastidious attention to detail

  • Proven confidence and success in project and relationship management

  • Highly motivated, self-starting, and results-driven approach

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, Salesforce NPSP, and donor management platforms like Classy or Donorbox

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

The salary range for this position starts at $70,000, with exact salary depending on qualifications and experience.

The Honnold Foundation also offers excellent benefits, including a four day work week, a generous and flexible vacation policy, professional development stipend, Work from Anywhere allowance, payment of 100% of medical and dental insurance, employee wellness stipend, and retirement matching up to 5%.

HF operates as a fully remote work environment, with occasional required in-person team meetings, retreats, and events.

Office hours are approximately 9am - 5pm Pacific Time.

Employees not based in the Pacific Time zone may flex their hours but may be required to work outside their regular office hours to attend meetings and other events. Travel is a part of many positions at HF. The Development Manager can expect to travel domestically 4-5 times a year. Unfortunately, our team cannot provide visa sponsorship at this time.
