Hera Javaid
SHINE AWARD
Hera Javaid (she/her) is passionate about providing opportunities to first-generation students, increasing social mobility, advocating for social justice and change, and redefining who gets to be in places and spaces across New York City.
As the Executive Director for Institutional Advancement at CUNY Law, she oversees four divisions: Development, Alumni Engagement and Initiatives, Marketing and Communications, and Government Relations. She is also the Executive Director of the CUNY Law Foundation at the CUNY School of Law.
Prior to CUNY Law, Hera has over thirteen years of experience in higher education at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and Baruch College, performing arts at 92Y, the environment at the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), and the museum sector at Asia Society and the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH).
She serves on the Tri-State/Greater New York Chapter of Women of Color in Fundraising and Philanthropy (WOC) and is a Women in Development (WID) member. Hera is a 2021 graduate of the inaugural WOC Radiant Leadership Institute and served as a Board Member for Henry Street Settlement.
A native of New York City, Hera is a proud supporter of public education. She holds a Master of Public Administration from Baruch College, specializing in Nonprofit Management, and a Bachelor of Arts from Stony Brook University. She loves visiting new restaurants, catching a show at the Met Opera, and spending time with her husband, Nick, and Maltipoo, Ami.
