Description

The Manager of Institutional Giving works on the Alliance’s institutional giving programs with an emphasis on philanthropic and government grants and and growing the portfolio of foundation funders. The job additionally works on engagement with corporations through philanthropic support, sponsorship opportunities, and corporate volunteer days. This position coordinates communication with funders and reports directly to the Director of institutional Giving, also providing support to the Vice President, Development, and the President & Park Administrator by researching, cultivating, and engaging funders in the mission and work of the Alliance.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS / KEY JOB OUTCOMES

Planning, Strategy & Relationship Building:

  • Manage a high-impact institutional giving and engagement strategy program, encompassing the cultivation of private, community, and corporate foundations supporting the growth and long-term sustainability of the Alliance

  • Conduct research and navigation of the field of institutional funding sources to identify potential compatibility and interest in the work of the Alliance including analysis of past, current, and prospective supporters and partners

  • Broaden and deepen the portfolio of funders supporting the organization by building compelling and targeted narratives

  • Ensure the primary relationship manager for all institutional funders and partners keeps them abreast on an on-going basis of the work and initiatives of the Alliance through site visits, briefings, and reports by setting up correspondence strategies for all funders and managing and executing a year-round communications calendar

  • Identify and implement a series of engagement opportunities, including event participation, so that institutional funders sustain their interest and long-term support of the Alliance

  • Ensure appropriate recognition and fulfillment of all obligations to corporate, foundation, and government funders, including processing tax acknowledgments in a timely fashion

Institutional Fundraising & Grant Development/Management

  • Identify, write, and submit philanthropic grant proposals and budgets, in collaboration with the organization’s program staff and other departments as necessary

  • Manage and maintain institutional grant calendar, reporting schedule, and task management documents for corporate, foundation, and government support

  • Serve as a significant thought partner and contributor on all institutional grant proposals, report submissions, and grant solicitations, and position the organization through these activities for ongoing and new support from institutional funders

  • Conduct ongoing prospect research to grow the prospect pool for priority projects, to apply for 8-10 new grants per year

  • Arrange meetings with corporations and foundations for pitching and presenting proposals and cultivating and stewarding relationships and long-term partnerships

  • Maintain ongoing communication with program teams on priority projects and initiatives for which to seek prospective foundation, corporate, and government funding; identify funding sources for renewed and new support; and develop and implement strategies for grant stewardship

  • Ensure all necessary records, files, reports, databases and resource materials pertinent to grant activities remain up to date and accurate

  • Collaborate with the organization’s finance and administrative staff to ensure that grants comply with regulatory, funding agency, and policy requirements

Program & Administrative Coordination

  • Track key performance indicators to assess expenses, revenue generation, and ROI related to all institutional giving initiatives and relationships.

  • Utilize Raiser’s Edge to record and monitor all funding opportunities, communications, pledges and payments

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for review and follow-up by the Finance Department and senior leadership team

  • Assist with general Development Department activities, including mailings, funding, and performance presentations, and preparations for Board meetings

  • Provide writing templates for the Development Department to utilize in appeals, acknowledgments, and other written materials

  • Assist with donor cultivation and provide general support for various Alliance fundraising events

  • Travel to various parts of the Park or other locations as needed to fulfill duties

  • Performs other job-related duties and functions as assigned

Requirements

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Public Administration, Business Administration, or other relevant discipline

  • 4 - 7 years experience in fundraising with a nonprofit organization, particularly institutional grants management, grant writing and development and cultivating relationships with private, family, community, and corporate foundations

  • A valid NYS

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Work is normally performed in an interior office setting which does not subject the employee to any hazardous or unusual elements

  • Job requires operating a motor vehicle; standing for extended periods of time and use of a desktop, laptop or video display terminal

  • Work requires routine physical movements with limited physical exertion

  • Requires communicating information with co-workers, stakeholders and/or the public; reading correspondence, instructions and/or technical documents; writing correspondence and/or reports and filling in forms

  • Requires flexibility to work fundraising events, both after work and on the weekends as necessary

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

Job Grade: 4 (Managerial & Technical) Salary Range: $70,000 - $75,000

FLSA Status: Exempt
