Description

The Director Annual Giving is responsible for providing management and execution of a comprehensive annual giving direct mail and email solicitation calendar as it relates to the leadership annual giving society (Anchor Cross Society), and renewing, upgrading and acquiring donors to Rush.

This work supports the larger department of philanthropy in identifying and engaging mid-level donors to all areas of the system. This position reports to the Senior Director, Annual Giving and collaborates regularly with the other members of the Office of Philanthropy, including Major and Gift Planning officers, Trustee and Principal Giving; Advancement Services, Stewardship, Development Communications and Events team members.

This function also interfaces regularly with other departments at Rush, including Marketing and Communications, Rush Copley Development, clinical partners across the system, as well as directly with external audiences/individual donors. Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities

  • Executes Annual Giving appeals, manages data and segmentation, messaging and design and production for gift club appeals, special acquisition projects general renewal appeals and other key audience campaigns; Manages timelines and workflow between philanthropy teams and outside vendors.

  • Establish an annual plan with strategies, tactics, measurable goals and timelines which are integrally linked to the overall department goals. In creating the plan, work collaboratively with peers to help ensure that planning is integrated across audiences. Communicate the plan to supervisor and departmental leadership and report on progress toward goals.

  • Strategic partner to major gifts team to support special fundraising initiatives geared towards engaging mid-level donors or acquiring new donors.

  • Participate in campaign strategy committees related to internal/alumni engagement and support alumni engagement strategy through collaboration with alumni relations team, alumni giving team and university partners.

  • Work closely with supervisor on the development of an annual budget to support annual giving initiatives in a cost-efficient and effective manner and oversee the execution of tactics to ensure on-budget spending.

  • Work with development communications on reviewing content on Rush Web site for online giving and promote awareness of the impact of annual giving and ways to give via Rush’s social networking sites.

  • Analyze results and make changes to achieve goals in donor participation, retention, total revenue, including ROI and multi-year comparisons, of strategies and tactics across multiple integrated direct response channels

  • Collaborate with stewardship team on mass stewardship e-communications including end of year messages and work to develop stewardship messages for unrestricted donors and specific campaign acknowledgements.

  • Work closely with annual giving team members to understand each audience and organize overall mass appeal communication calendar.

  • Communicate with individual donors/prospective donors at any level regularly via phone calls and emails.

  • Accept other duties as assigned related to annual giving and Rush philanthropy.

Requirements

Required Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in Philanthropy with demonstrated increase in responsibility related to annual giving

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills required; including the ability to articulate Rush’s mission and the campaign vision to a variety of constituencies with poise and diplomacy.

  • Ability to analyze data and tailor strategies to various audiences to meet annual goals of program and department

  • Professional demeanor with demonstrated examples of successful collaboration with others

  • Broad experience working on broad communication-related deliverables; welcomes constructive criticism and strives for continuous improvement.

  • A track record of independently shepherding multiple projects with overlapping deadlines from inception to delivery.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint required; willingness to learn new technology and adapt to an on-going Salesforce transition.

  • Proficiency in organizing and manipulating excel spreadsheets required.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

$100,000 - $110,000 per year
