Description

Supermajority Education Fund is seeking a Deputy Director of Development to join the team. Reporting to the Development Director, the Deputy Development Director will be integral in creating and implementing a plan to build our pipeline of major gift support.

This role includes management of the Development Manager of Operations and Prospecting. A successful candidate will have experience in building and managing a major gift portfolio, successfully soliciting five- and six-figure gifts, and developing new donor relationships.

Responsibilities

Major Donor Portfolio Management

  • Consistently engages in communication with potential and existing donors through email, phone outreach, and meetings (either virtual or in person).

  • Supports communication with potential and existing major donors for the Director of Development and Executive Director through a moves management process

  • Expands the portfolio of major donors through research and identification of donors and prospects who have the capacity to give five and six figure gifts, especially individual donors.

Communications & Writing

  • Partner with the communications and program teams to develops compelling donor materials that grow the base of donors, keeps donors informed of progress of our work, and share insights from our research and learnings from our program

  • Serve as lead writer for grant submissions, proposals and applications and ensure these submissions are packaged according to the requirements of the donor or grant-giving organization.

  • Create a strategic calendar for communications to individual donors and foundations and leads development content and copy for major donor communications, appeals and campaigns.

Events & Partnerships

Develop and execute annual event strategies, with special attention to the interests of partners. Leads partnership opportunities for both short- and long-term institutional goals

Requirements

The successful candidate must have the following skills and qualities:

  • Advancing justice: operationalizes equitable policies and practices, centering communities most impacted when developing ideas for solutions, and building a values-aligned base of donors. Has demonstrated capacity to manage across group identities with awareness of personal identities, privilege, and power in managing and collaborating with others.

  • Major gift solicitation: Demonstrated track record of effective solicitation of five and six figure gifts, including a proven record of accomplishment with individual and/or foundation donors. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills.

  • Strategic fundraising: Ability to strategically represent the organization to donor partners, understands the needs of donor partners finding common ground and points of intersection, establishes and maintains relationships.

  • Leadership and collaboration: able to lead and project manage cross-departmental projects to produce communication materials, events, and fundraising campaigns. Models grounding projects, programs, and initiatives in justice from the beginning, and centering and including voices of those impacted throughout planning and execution.

  • Adaptive leader: Action-oriented with desire to be in a fast-paced environment; takes initiative and can work both independently and collaboratively. Willingness and ability to travel.

The strongest candidates will also have some of the following skills and experience:

  • Experience with raising funds for various types of legal entities such as a 501(c)4.

  • Knowledge of the national philanthropic landscape is a plus.

  • Interest and experience with gender equity and advocacy organizations is a plus.

  • Knowledge of grassroots organizing and voter contact efforts is a plus.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

New hires start at $105,000.

While we know applicants may be accustomed to negotiating salary, we will not negotiate salary with anyone in order to maintain pay equity. Instead, we provide transparent, consistent, and competitive starting salaries for job postings based on job level. Comprehensive benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health, dental, and vision insurance for employees (and their families).

Employees are able to enroll in 401k retirement plan and are eligible for a 3% automatic contribution and up to a 3% employer match on 401k contributions.

Employees are also eligible for pre-tax transportation benefits. Employees will receive 160 hours of vacation time, 80 hours of health and caregiver leave, and 20 hours of volunteer leave annually. Employees will also receive 22 paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are eligible for 20 weeks of paid family and medical leave.
