Description
The Director of Advancement plans, manages and implements activities that increase, diversify and sustain financial support for Brookview and its affiliates from individuals, corporations, foundations and public funders; identifies and oversees resources to write grant applications, case statements, major gift and sponsorship proposals, technical reports, communication materials, and other documents to support ongoing fundraising activities; and works closely within a team of highly committed professionals who oversee programming and develop new initiatives.
Responsibilities
Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward foundations and corporations whose charitable objectives and funding programs are consistent with Brookview’s mission
Prepare grant applications and proposals to local, state and federal government agencies to meet ongoing needs and support programs and services provided by Brookview
Keep current with trends in the foundation community and follow best practices in the field
Ensure all funders have a strong working knowledge and understanding of the work being done at Brookview
Ensure that stewardship of donors makes supporting Brookview a personally fulfilling experience; conveys to donors that Brookview and its leaders care deeply about its supporters and appreciate what they have done for the organization; and demonstrates the impact their contributions have on the community
Identify stories that elevate awareness and understanding of key priorities; communicate these stories in clear and compelling terms with multiple constituencies
Conceptualize and implement special campaigns, direct mailings and other initiatives to generate revenue to meet current needs and annual fundraising goals
Leverage the success of the annual appeal to identify donors capable of making larger commitments in support of Brookview
Oversee data entry and manage CRM databases, ensuring accuracy of information
Assist with all publicity and marketing efforts to advance organizational visibility, including events planning and promotion on multiple platforms
Develop a keen understanding of the work undertaken by peers on the leadership team and staff members at the organization and serve as a resource to them in their efforts
Requirements
At least three to five years of development experience, including in corporate and foundation relations
A track record of success formulating and executing short-term and long-range strategic plans that have a transformational and sustainable impact on an institution and the individuals it serves
Exemplary interpersonal and community-building skills as well as a high degree of comfort and cultural sensitivity engaging individuals with varying backgrounds and life experiences; the ability and desire to serve as an advocate for an organization and representative to a wider community
The ability to collaborate with colleagues to advance the mission of an institution
A highly motivated self-starter who deploys an entrepreneurial approach to build and guide an advancement program
Superior writing and speaking skills; an ability to convey the depth and breadth of services Brookview provides to the individuals it serves and the impact it has on their lives in clear, compelling and effective language
A commitment to the mission of Brookview and a deep appreciation for the vital role a human services organization plays in a community and the impact it has on the individuals it serves
Superior organizational and project management skills and the ability to manage and balance simultaneously the needs of multiple stakeholders and competing priorities and meet deadlines in a time-constrained environment
Ability to initiate and complete tasks with minimal supervision, exercising discretion and independent judgment
