About the Organization

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center is the anchor cultural institution for the city of Newark and the state of New Jersey. The Arts Center is hyperlocal, grounded by community, and committed to driving social impact statewide — from the three-city North to Shore Festival to Arts Education and community development in Newark. NJPAC proudly prioritizes inclusion in every aspect of its mission, welcoming the most diverse audiences and artists in the country to its stages while producing and presenting exciting original productions, such as The Hip Hop Nutcracker, that tour the country and extend its reach to a national audience. NJPAC produces shows throughout the New York metro area, presenting a talented roster of high-caliber artists at venues such as The Kings Theatre, Barclays Center, Prudential Center, and Symphony Hall. NJPAC also is the premier filming location for today’s top comedians and performers. Some of the performers that have filmed specials at NJPAC include You’re Doing Great with Tom Papa; John Leguizamo’s Latin History for Morons; the upcoming Amazon series Etoile; and American Songbook on PBS. NJPAC’s Arts Education program has amplified student voices for decades.

Thousands of New Jersey children who experience world-class performances on Arts Center stages go on to classes at NJPAC and in schools across the state where they can study jazz, acting, musical theater, hip hop arts and culture, and more. Now, NJPAC is taking its programs to the next level with an exciting new initiative, The Colton Institute for Training and Research in the Arts. The Colton Institute develops creative children, teens, and young adults through Saturday classes, summer camps, coaching, career mentorship, and professional performance opportunities. The Colton Institute also develops creative arts education with leading-edge training for school districts, teachers, and NJPAC faculty. All of this combines with dynamic research and innovation to serve as a national model for what 21st century arts education can be. NJPAC is also a uniquely creative and mission driven real estate developer, one of a kind nationally in bringing together public and private partners to lead community development. NJPAC has invested in a $350 million project to establish a new neighborhood on its campus — Artside — including new retail, residential, and public amenities, as well as the Cooperman Family Arts Education Center, a new home for its social impact programs.

Together with Great Point Studios, NJPAC is building a purpose-built film and TV production facility in Newark, with Lionsgate as the long-term anchor tenant. These investments accrue to the benefit of Newarkers and New Jerseyans more broadly, while furthering NJPAC’s mission to advance economic revitalization in the state. Since opening in 1997, NJPAC has engaged over 12 million people through its programs. Through the Arts Center's comprehensive program, including ticketed performances, community-based services and events, and real estate development, NJPAC is driving more than $46 million in annual economic impact in the state of New Jersey.
