Job Summary:

Functional expert responsible for the planning, staffing, and tactical execution of group and/or broad-based relationship management plans, programs & events. These programs are designed to strategically identify & cultivate prospects, students & alumni in meaningful ways that transition into engaged volunteers & donors.

The Associate Director develops and integrates specific strategic digital initiatives to create a pipeline of donors in support of annual giving, student philanthropy, and related goals. Strong focus on management of current and emerging fundraising technologies including the Catalyzer crowdfunding platforms, texting outreach, and new recent graduate digital outreach.

The Associate Director works with the Director on strategy related to digital/online giving initiatives and manages the execution of those initiatives across ARD teams including support and integration. As part of the broader Young Alumni, Student Philanthropy, and Online Giving team, this position works closely on promotion and cross team collaboration to support all areas of the programs.


Responsibilities

Activities this role will complete:

  • Coordination of strategy and execution with the Director related to programs specifically run by the Associate Director. Development/management/coordination of program execution related to all student group fundraising initiatives including, but not limited to, Catalyzer, and other complex student group fundraising management.

  • Including the recruitment and management of the Catalyzer Review Committee and volunteer fundraisers.

  • Development/management/coordination of program execution related to non-student use of Catalyzer including department, alumni clubs, and other groups.

  • Development/management/coordination of program execution related to the integration of texting with existing campaigns and programs.

  • Development/management/coordination of program execution related to recent graduate outreach with focus on emerging segments.

  • Reporting and analytics related to program specific needs. Financial/budget balancing and related activities. Identification and acquisition of materials/information to successfully execute programs. Help to develop innovative outreach techniques to reach targeted cohorts.

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously and understand team priorities in the context of Annual Giving goals.

  • Other duties to be assigned related to overall Annual Giving program. Serves as liaison to both University and Northwestern Alumni Association (NAA).

  • Key liaison with ARD Marketing and Communications, and Gift and Record Services for digital platforms when applicable.

  • All members of the Annual Giving - Young Alumni, Student Philanthropy, and Online Giving team support the execution of on campus, student facing events. This position will be based in Illinois and will not have the option to be 100% remote.

Specific Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Significant participation in developing strategic plans.

  • Primary responsibility for administering & maintaining existing strategic plans relating to specific market segments, programs, events, support teams or high level donors to meet goals for engagement & participation.

  • Recommends changes & improvements to processes, objectives, and goals based on evaluation of completed programs to dramatically increase engagement & participation & maximize & ensure most effective & efficient use of resources.

  • Collaboration Involves moderate- to-high-level of collaboration with both internal department partners and moderate level of collaboration with broader University partners to identify & integrate resources in order to accomplish strategic goals & objectives.

Prospects & Gifts

  • Develops, plans & implements strategies, goals & approach for 1 large or a number of portions of the less complex relationship programming

  • Works with department and University colleagues to facilitate programming.

  • Responsible for relationship management of volunteers and donors.

  • Identifies prospects. Develops and implements individual engagement plans.

  • Creates programs &/or events that promote engagement & philanthropic opportunities. Personally solicits gifts.

  • Plans and/or executes stewardship. Volunteers Recruits, engages, trains, and manages volunteers.

  • Coordinates volunteer strategies with other development staff, including volunteer events, programming, marketing materials and social networking efforts.

  • Manages & implements a variety of leadership training opportunities both in-person & virtually designed to meet the needs of entry level to advanced alumni leaders in locations around the world.

  • Travels extensively throughout the region or country.

Events

  • Develops, plans & implements strategies, goals & approach for 1 large or a number of portions of the less complex programs &/or events that promote engagement & philanthropic opportunities. Identifies target audience(s).

  • Develops innovative programming & associated web- & print-based marketing campaigns.

  • Recruits & manages volunteers. Creates event plans & summaries.

Administration

  • Manages development and execution of programming and marketing related to engagement and solicitation. Determines key tactics. Articulates goals and timelines. Provides creative direction to designers and writers.

  • Plans events (including marketing, programming, and follow-up). Provides work direction to colleagues or collaborators.

  • Provides necessary documentation and follow-up to donors, volunteers & internal contacts and inputs all volunteer and alumni activity in database.

  • Monitors and analyzes program metrics, including engagement activity, gifts/pledges, etc.

  • Ensures that proper stewardship and gift pledge follow-up occurs. Analyzes segment, group, program, event metrics and reports to manager.

  • Responsible for duties assigned to supervised staff. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of industry best practices.

  • Optimizes the use of technology including social media for marketing, communications & data reporting & analysis.

  • Assists in the development of dashboards & metrics which provide quantitative analysis of program & event outcomes.

Budget

  • Drafts budget for smaller less-complex programs &/or events.

  • Reviews with manager, & manages approved budget ensuring to minimize expenses while maximizing return.

  • Drafts special budget requests for manager's review.

Supervisory Supervises

  • 1-2 staff &/or provides work direction.

  • Provides training to staff within or outside of immediate dept or division in regard to function. Completes other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 2 years equivalent experience in development function.

  • 4 years development, marketing, sales or the equivalent experience is required.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

Target hiring range for this position will be between $78,482-$82,000 per year.

Offered salary will be determined by the applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
