In this newly established role, the Vice President of Philanthropy will work to establish and expand Fondation Trahan’s philanthropic efforts to raise critical funds necessary for ongoing projects with a primary focus on the Magazine Street Museum and, in future, Live Oak.

The Vice President of Philanthropy will help sustain and grow a culture of sophisticated leadership gift philanthropy and build a sustainable development organization able to fund the foundation’s strategic goals. Based in New Orleans, Louisiana, and reporting directly to the President, the Vice President of Philanthropy will serve in a critical leadership role as a strategic partner and will join an exceptionally committed, passionate group dedicated to cultivating places and experiences of transcendence and healing.

The Vice President of Philanthropy builds and maintains a portfolio of prospective donors; continually prospects and cultivates; develops donor requests for gifts; and directly asks for gifts. The Vice President of Philanthropy will implement both short-and long-term engagement strategies to maximize relationships with existing donors and new donors with the capacity to make major and transformational gifts. This position is responsible for advising, coaching, and providing recommendations to advance the cultivation of prospective donors.

Responsibilities

The Vice President of Philanthropy will have the following primary responsibilities:

  • Set and lead strategy for a new philanthropic program, with particular focus on diversifying revenue and increasing individual giving.

  • Expand the organization’s individual fundraising, grants, email and social media campaigns, and donor stewardship. Create and execute an elevated and comprehensive donor stewardship strategy for potential campaign-level giving.

  • Guide strategic growth of contributed revenue to the organization; serve as high-level visionary while also managing tactical implementation of strategic goals.

  • Serve as a critical leader within the foundation, contributing to the development of strategic plans, partnering on resource decisions, and guiding and leading a positive culture of philanthropy and stewardship across the organization.

  • Recommend and implement unique blended gift models, payment strategies, inventories of donor benefits, compelling campaign messages, and related materials designed to capture the attention and support of prequalified high dollar donor sources.

  • With the President and outside fundraising counsel, create and continually refine a local and national development strategy to ensure a sustainable fundraising model to support the organization’s longterm goals.

  • Cross-collaborate with the Executive Team of Trahan Architects as future projects may move under the foundation’s purview.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess most of the following qualifications:

  • Ten or more years of senior leadership and development experience in the nonprofit sector.

  • Deep understanding of prospect research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies; demonstrated success personally soliciting and securing major gifts.

  • Experience working with a major philanthropic community/network; experience navigating and driving success.

  • Comprehensive program management skills and experience, including short- and long-term planning and evaluation, philanthropy ethics, cultivation practices, and development and maintenance of systems and processes.

  • Skilled in effective teamwork; ability to drive alignment and productive collaboration.

  • Accustomed to being held accountable for ambitious, bottom-line results.

  • Strategic relationship management experience. Demonstrated experience cultivating relationships and giving from high-net-worth individuals.

  • Highly engaging, exuberant, and approachable with savvy interpersonal skills; diplomatic, ambassadorial, and authentic.

  • Highly skilled and experienced in polished and persuasive written and oral communication.

  • Entrepreneurial, creative, and flexible work style capable of thriving within a dynamic and growing organization.

  • Bachelor’s degree or above preferred.

  • Arts and culture experience preferred.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

$165,000- $185,000
