This exciting and re-imagined Executive Director role will offer a new opportunity for partnership between the city and the philanthropic community.

As the face of the organization and the chief fundraiser who will set the tone and the overall strategy for the organization’s fundraising performance, this dynamic leader will identify, assess, and secure appropriate partnership opportunities to advance the city directly, and through the City-affiliated non-profit organizations with corporate and community partners.

Such areas may include, but are not limited to, financial support and in-kind donations to advance special projects, programs, capacity building, or community or facility infrastructure development and maintenance.

Responsibilities

The Problems You’ll Solve The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives is seeking an innovative, forward thinking and entrepreneurial-minded individual to serve as the Executive Director of the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.

The Executive Director will report to a Board of Directors and will assist the Deputy Mayor in managing the Board of Advisors. Duties include, but are not limited to:

The Executive Director works closely with the Board of Directors and Board of Advisors as well as the Office of the Mayor to drive the organization’s mission and goals. Reporting to the Executive Director are the Chief of Staff, General Counsel, Director of Programs and Policies, Director of Development, and the Director of Finance & Operations. The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors about financials, new partnerships, and programs.

  • Under guidance from the Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives and the Board of The Mayor’s Fund, galvanizing philanthropic and institutional partners to drive transformational resources to the city of New York.

  • Establishing a revitalized relationship between the city and the philanthropic community (High Net Worth, Institutional and Corporate); seeking and building diverse streams of revenue and establishing new markets for cultivation (capital markets, social impact bonds, etc.)

  • Cultivating relationships with funders, articulating and executing on the vision of the administration to generate revenue.

  • Maintaining communication and collaboration with the Board of Directors, providing them with regular updates and seeking input on key decisions affecting the organization.

  • Management, fiscal oversight, revenue diversification and alignment of the fund to the Administration’s priorities.

  • Liaising with the Mayor’s Office and City agency heads

  • Establishing and maintaining strategic programmatic goals with support from the Director of Programs and Policies.

  • Cultivating donor relations with support from the Director of Development

  • Serving as the Fund’s primary spokesperson for press inquiries and public events

  • Reviewing and approving financial reports including annual operating budget

  • Reviewing and approving all press releases and publications including annual report

  • Reviewing and approving payment requests, invoices and checks for payments.

  • Authorizing and reviewing bank transfers, wire payments, and bank statements

  • Approving annual audit and tax return filings with Director of Finance and Operations

  • Reviewing and approving all contracts for goods and services and grant agreements

  • Overseeing compliance with organization’s policies and procedures including City contract, Conflict of Interest Board filings and Organization by-laws.

Requirements

You are an experienced fundraiser with existing relationships within the philanthropic community serving the City of New York.

  • You have experience closing 6-7 figure grants, sponsorships, and donations.

  • You have excellent communication, writing, research, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, time-management and multi-tasking skills, including the ability to take initiative, prioritize duties, pay close attention to detail, prioritize tasks, work independently and under pressure to meet specific deadlines.

  • You have experience leading and managing multiple complex projects in a fast-paced setting.

  • You are skilled in building strong coalitions and engaging a wide range of stakeholders.

  • You have a flexible and creative approach to making plans, using resources and solving problems.

  • You are knowledgeable about New York City’s diverse communities.

  • You are results-driven and self-motivated.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

The base salary for this role is $200,000 - $225,000 commensurate with experience. Benefits include employer paid health, vision, and dental insurance, generous PTO, hybrid work and more.
