Description

The Associate Director of Development for Leadership & Campaign Giving plays a pivotal role in supporting the fundraising initiatives and strategic goals of Pittsburgh Public Theater (The Public). Working closely with the Chief Development Officer, this position is responsible for assisting in the planning, execution, and management of fundraising campaigns and donor stewardship programs; supporting the Chief Development Officer, executive leadership, and Board of Trustees during special campaigns; coordinating and collaborating with other members of the Development team in the day-to-day activities of the department; and collaborating with other departments to advance the mission of The Public. The person in this role possesses strong organizational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for the arts and culture sector. This is a full-time, exempt position.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of the Pittsburgh Public Theater Mission, Vision, Values, Leadership Goals, as well as the Development Department’s processes and procedures.

  • Work as a member of a team, including executive and development staff, Board of Trustees.

  • Support and assist the Chief Development Officer in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive fund development plan to meet annual revenue goals.

  • Individual donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship (Annual Fund) - With the Chief Development Officer, create a leadership giving program that reflects The Public’s values.

  • Lead the identification and cultivation of prospective donors for leadership giving.

  • Support the Individual Giving Associate in the cultivation of donors giving below this level to maintain a healthy pipeline of prospective donors for leadership giving.

  • Lead research efforts and analyze findings on donors and prospective donors, with the Chief Development Officer.

  • Maintain an active schedule of donor meetings/phone calls to deepen relationships between the organization and donors and prospective donors, to encourage ongoing gifts, increased gifts, and to secure new gifts.

  • With utmost discretion, maintain and manage access to confidential information on donor profiles.

  • Solicit leadership gifts independently and as part of a team.

  • Manage the stewardship process and activities for leadership donors, in coordination with the Chief Development Officer.

  • Facilitate annual leadership giving renewal process, follow-up, and tracking in coordination with Chief Development Officer and Associate Director, Operations & External Communications.

  • Special Campaign Duties (applies to all special campaigns taken on by the organization, most immediately the $15 million TRUE PUBLIC campaign currently underway)

  • Support the Chief Development Officer, executive leadership, and Campaign Cabinet in the identification, cultivation, and stewardship of prospective campaign donors.

  • Coordinate with the Campaign Coordinator/Executive Assistant on setting up prospective donor meetings for the Chief Development Officer, executive leadership, and Campaign Cabinet.

  • With utmost discretion, maintain and manage access to confidential information on donor profiles.

  • Solicit campaign gifts as part of a team and independently, fulfilling primary, secondary, or support roles, as requested, and preparing Board members as needed.

  • Support the Chief Development Officer in the stewardship process and activities for campaign donors, including but not limited to donor recognition and recognition events.

  • Work with the Chief Development Officer to identify candidates for legacy/planned giving.

  • Working with the Associate Director of Development, Operations & External Communications, ensure proper and accurate donor recognition in program materials.

  • Ensure accurate and timely gift acknowledgement, renewal correspondence, and donor commitment confirmations.

  • Work collaboratively with internal departments, including Marketing, Artistic, Production, and Finance, to align development efforts with organizational priorities.

  • Represent Pittsburgh Public Theater at internal and external events.

  • Stay informed about trends and best practices in fundraising and nonprofit management, actively seeking opportunities for professional growth.

  • Attend all signature and special events.

  • Attend final dress rehearsals, all opening night performances and other performances as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as nonprofit management, arts administration, or other arts related degree; advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, with demonstrated success in major donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including donors, board members, and volunteers.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate the mission and impact of Pittsburgh Public Theater persuasively and communicate with colleagues in a productive and positive manner.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, wealth screening, and CRM/donor database software; Tessitura experience preferred.

  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed for events and meetings.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion inside and outside the workplace.

  • Collaborative mindset, with a willingness to work as part of a team and support the leadership of the Chief Development Officer.

  • Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach to challenges.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

This is a full-time exempt position. The salary range for the position is $75,000 - $85,000, plus benefits.

Benefits include flexible work schedule and flexibility to work remotely when needed, health insurance subsidized by Pittsburgh Public Theater with 5 plans available; dental and vision insurance 100% paid for by Pittsburgh Public Theater; paid time off (vacation, sick, and personal days), and 9 paid holidays; 401k retirement plan, with a 1% employer match available; and parking.

Pittsburgh Public Theater is a hybrid workplace with most administrative employees working from home two days per week and in the theater’s downtown office three days per week. Team schedules may be adjusted at the discretion of senior management and department supervisors. Development staff are in the office Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday each week.
