Part time position 4 days a week; hybrid

The Assistant Director will play a key role in resource mobilization to support the Common Threads Project (CTP) goal to significantly increase private and grants revenue to enhance its mission and strategic initiatives. The Assistant Director will have a demonstrated track record of securing major grant awards. The position will also work closely with the Executive Director in managing program strategies, plans and budgets and communicating their results.

Common Threads Project helps individuals and communities heal from the enduring psychological effects of sexual and gender-based violence through a unique trauma healing methodology that combines neuroscience and art. CTP trains and builds the capacity of partner organizations that serve survivors of sexual and gender-based violence. CTP is developing Centers of Excellent in Nepal and Ecuador, and has programs in Nigeria, New York City, Seattle, and the Washington DC area.


Responsibilities

DEVELOPS AND MANAGES FUNDRAISING STRATEGY

  • Works with the Executive Director to create and implement a robust fundraising strategy to expand foundation, individual giving, and corporate giving

  • Develops annual fundraising plan and implements all facets, including annual fundraising appeal, with support from the Operations Manager

  • Develops and implements strategies to expand the monthly donor campaign, including acquisition, engagement and retention

  • Assists in development of direct digital fundraising campaigns, social media fundraisers, and end of year fundraising

GRANT WRITING AND GRANTS MANAGEMENT

  • Leads the solicitation and writes letters of interest and proposals for grant and major gift donors

  • Responsible for researching to identify potential grants and foundations

  • Responsible for grants management including writing, submission, reporting, and administration

  • Works with Operations Manager and program team to ensure project implementation meets grant requirements

  • Collaborates with Operations Manager on managing fundraising data

  • Provides financial oversight for grant funding

COMMUNICATIONS AND REPORTING

  • Works with ED and Operations Manager in developing effective communications for donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship

  • Plans and coordinates meetings with Executive Director and program leaders to discuss status of grant budgets vs actuals and action planning.

  • Provides regular updates, quarterly reports and forecasts to leadership and donors on fundraising progress against goals

  • Supports the production and dissemination of annual impact reports to donors

  • Works with the board to identify and engage supporters and donors

OTHER DUTIES

  • Assists the Executive Director in budgeting, operational planning and project management

  • Represents CTP with donors and other stakeholders to promote the mission and goals


Requirements

  • 6+ years of fundraising experience preferably from both public and private sources.

  • Demonstrated track record of successfully developing major gifts with an emphasis on donations for general operating support and advancing strategic priorities.

  • Excellent writing skills – with ability to capture the purpose, importance and impact of programs and projects in alignment with donors’ interests.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written), including strong presentation skills

  • Experience in project management, budget preparation and/or analysis

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, manage demanding priorities to meet deadlines for proposals and reports.

  • Strong commitment to CTP’s’ organizational values of client-centered, trauma-informed practice, anti-racism, and community-centered programming

  • Strong working knowledge of local, national and international donors and funding trends

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; background in social justice or human services preferred.

Hybrid/ Ability to travel within New York City as needed.

Experience with international grand and private grants and donors is a plus

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

$70-75,000 for four days a week, based on the candidate's location, relevant skills and experience.

Common Threads Project (CTP) is a dynamic growing nonprofit working in the humanitarian sphere. Our mission is to help women heal from the enduring psychological effects of sexual and gender-based violence in the context of war and displacement. We build local capacity through training and supervision and support local specialists to establish women’s circles and lead them through our transformative therapy process. We further the field of trauma therapy by documenting learning from our work and sharing it with others in the field.

Our field operations are in Bosnia, Nepal, Democratic Republic of Congo, and we have emerging programs in Seattle and New York.
