How This Black-Owned Beauty Brand Set Out to Create Clean Makeup for Black Women

For WOC women, as women of color professionals, it can be daunting to find clean and organic beauty products formulated for our needs. For deeper skin tones, options are even more limited.
Jasmine Rose, Founder of Laws of Nature Cosmetics, knew this all too well. She began her journey learning and transitioning into green cosmetic products after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007.
Part of this transition included examining her own beauty habits and during this process, Jasmine found it challenging to switch to a foundation that would match her skin tone but also contain natural ingredients.
“Ultimately, we want Black women to enhance their natural beauty and feel empowered by taking control of what is being put on their bodies and understand which ingredients to avoid in their beauty products.”
Jasmine took it upon herself to fill this void by formulating her own foundation for rich skin tones, which led to the launch of Laws of Nature Cosmetics in 2015.
Laws of Nature Cosmetics is a clean, vegan and paraben-free makeup company with a focus on foundation and skin products. Its clean formulation allows it to be “suitable for all skin types and conditions — normal, dry, combination, eczema, sensitive, or oily/acne-prone.”
