Description

As the Senior Director of Individual Giving (SDIG), you will play a crucial role in advancing Strathmore's mission and values by serving as a strategic and mission-driven frontline fundraiser. Alongside the President and CEO and the Vice President of Advancement, you will direct the individual major gifts program and bear significant responsibility for building key relationships.

Reporting to and partnering closely with the Vice President of Advancement, you will spearhead the growth of contributed revenue opportunities from individual donors and family foundations. With an emphasis on cultivating and deepening relationships with existing and prospective donors capable of five to seven-figure gifts, you will help build our capacity to nurture, support, and celebrate the arts right here where we live.

Responsibilities

RELATIONSHIP BUILDER

  • Serve as the point person and a strategic leader with the President and CEO and the Vice President of Advancement to plan and implement a focused individual fundraising strategy for Strathmore's major, leadership, and principal gift donors and prospects.

  • Manage a portfolio of individual donors, family foundations, and prospects of meaningful capacity by utilizing fundraising best practices—with a heavy focus on face-to-face solicitations—to help Strathmore achieve short and long-term fundraising goals.

  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for this portfolio by creating a personalized cultivation plan and individualized goals and strategies for each donor/prospect that is driven by the intersection of the donor’s passions and interests and programmatic priorities and needs of Strathmore.

  • Grow individual donor base by identifying, qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting new prospects, moving them through the pipeline in an intentional and systematic way.

  • Prepare and review donor briefs, contact reports, acknowledgement and solicitation letters, gift proposals, and other communications materials for potential prospects and donors.

  • Partner with the Donor Engagement team to provide exceptional stewardship, including recognition, invitation lists, and reporting on a gift’s impact.

  • Record and update interactions in Tessitura, Strathmore’s CRM, including actions and notes, proposals, and other pertinent information, in a timely manner.

  • Represent and support Strathmore in person, as necessary, at events, meetings, and other activities.

COLLABORATOR

  • Work closely with the President and CEO and Vice President of Advancement to support their cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts by creating donor profiles, briefing materials, and talking points, leveraging their leadership in giving strategies, and regularly sharing progress updates.

  • Generate ideas and initiate creative plans for contributed revenue generation in coordination with institutional leadership and the Advancement team.

  • Develop bold giving and engagement ideas through a collaborative process with the Advancement team and colleagues, based on research and experiences with donors.

  • Understand popular planned giving vehicles and team up with the Senior Director of Advancement to maximize planned giving opportunities.

LEADER

  • In tandem with the Vice President of Advancement, build and update relevant individual giving fundraising budgets and projections and assist in maintaining dashboards and other reporting tools for senior staff and board members.

  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the Advancement team in developing donor strategies, campaigns, and initiatives to achieve department-wide goals.

  • In coordination with institution leadership, engage and support the Board of Directors in their fundraising efforts.

  • Actively contribute to our equity-informed and inclusive work environment by taking an active role in promoting practices that support diversity, inclusion, and belonging.

  • Regularly share experience and expertise with team members and help mentor colleagues across the organization.

  • Represent Advancement at cross-departmental meetings, performances, and internal and external events.

  • Fully embrace an agile mindset and work style to take on other projects as assigned.

YOUR STRENGTHS INCLUDE:

  • Driven, organized, and an effective communicator with experience closing five to six-figure gifts using donor-centric relational approaches. Experience with seven-figure gifts is a plus!

  • Naturally empathetic, with the ability to connect, listen, and be responsive to donor needs.

  • Experience with a variety of fundraising strategies and methods.

  • Experience in planning and implementing long- and short-range goals to meet established priorities.

  • Passionate about the arts and arts education and can confidently and clearly communicate Strathmore’s mission and work.

  • A spirited thinker who anticipates needs, contributes creative ideas, and proposes solutions with strong decision-making capability.

YOUR SUCCESS ENTAILS:

  • Designing and executing major gift strategies rooted in that understanding from identification to solicitation and stewardship.

  • Demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present effectively one-on-one and to small groups.

  • Displaying a high level of tact and diplomacy with donors, board members, volunteers, and staff at all levels.

  • Fostering teamwork, and working cooperatively with others to set goals, resolve problems and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.

  • Performing with a high-level of discretion, professionalism, and integrity, demonstrating an understanding of ethics with the ability to safeguard confidential information.

Requirements

YOU’LL KNOW IF THE SENIOR DIRECTOR OF INDIVIDUAL GIVING ROLE IS THE RIGHT FIT FOR YOU IF YOU HAVE A:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum seven (7) years of individual major gifts related experience, including being the lead solicitor in face-to-face fundraising. Experience developing a comprehensive individual giving program is a plus!

  • Demonstrated track record of forming donor relationships that result in annual gifts in the five and six- figure range, and experience soliciting multi-year commitments and blended gifts.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and fundraising databases, which is required; Tessitura experience is a plus.

  • Ability to travel locally to meet with donors and prospects.

  • Desire to grow, learn, and contribute to a team.

  • Flexible schedule to accommodate evening and weekend performances and events.

Salary Range and Employee Benefits

OUR COMPETITIVE COMPENSATION PACKAGE INCLUDES:

  • Salary Range—$95,000 to $110,000 annually, with the exact salary depending on experience. This is a full-time, exempt position.
