Description
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Development Officer provides critical financial and administrative support to the Development team—maintaining systems related to donor acknowledgement, financial reconciliation, and database management.
This includes managing RefugePoint’s donor CRM database (Salesforce), collaborating with the finance team on annual audits and donation documentation to ensure accurate financial reporting, and providing general support to the development team (as time allows). The Development Officer will work closely and effectively with the Development team and Finance staff to ensure the acknowledgment and processing of donations in accordance with established procedures, and is responsible for generating reports, employing data analytics, and managing technology and tools to better support donor engagement and systems.
While this position requires at least three years of experience working with Salesforce (or a comparable donor database), the role is also designed to be a great learning experience to gain insight into other aspects of a development department, including annual giving, major gifts, and events. The Development Officer will get to work with all team members on various projects.
Responsibilities
Data Management
Maintain Salesforce/CRM system (donor and contact database), including data entry, report generation, data analysis, system updates, campaign progress, documenting protocols and processes, and training others as necessary.
Oversee database architecture, ensuring that fields are used consistently across the organization and those standard procedures are fully documented and understood.
Maintain overall data integrity by eliminating duplication, identifying and correcting errors/problems, and developing strategies and institutionalizing best practices for creating, editing, and deleting records.
Enter and maintain donor records, marketing lists, grant and contract details, and all relevant data into the Salesforce database.
Create reports, including donor reports, fundraising reports, Annual Report lists, and other ad-hoc reports as needed. Support Development and Executive team members with timely entering of donor information into Salesforce.
Donor Stewardship and Donation Processing
Process all donations from multiple platforms, including sending formal acknowledgments and receipts.
Maintain an electronic filing system for all donation records to provide accessibility, consistency, and transparency with regard to all donation processes.
Collaborate with the Finance team for monthly and annual reconciliation of donation records.
Provide comprehensive documentation for all donations to the Finance team and ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting.
General Development Support and Project Management
Assist with managing and generating contact lists for newsletters, appeals, or other mailings, including annual appeals.
Support the planning and logistics of donor events and trips, including our 20th Anniversary gala in October 2025.
Support the Development team with special projects, administrative tasks, meeting scheduling with funders, and other team management tasks as needed.
Requirements

Previous work in the refugee field is not required. You have demonstrated experience in a similar development role.
You bring at least three years of work experience in development and with Salesforce (preferred - or similar CRM), including data management, gift processing, and report generation.
This is the most important part of this role, and is a required prerequisite. You are detail and task-oriented with the ability to meet strict deadlines. This position is very important to ensure that all donor information is processed accurately and quickly.
You are a quick learner and have the ability to find and propose solutions to challenges. You are action-oriented and a resourceful project and task manager. You thrive in a lean nonprofit setting with the ability to stay focused and nimble in the face of growth and change.
You possess a “get it done” attitude and maintain a high degree of flexibility and creativity in a dynamic environment. You have a high degree of comfort with technology.
Salary Range and Employee Benefits
$39.68 per hour
At RefugePoint, we strive to reward our employees equitably and transparently. This means that we pay our employees based on a clear and consistent methodology and without regard to identity or personal relationships. The pay for this position is $39.68 per hour.
As a part-time employee at 30 hours a week, benefits for this position include 24 days of PTO (combined sick and vacation) in addition to 13 major holidays, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, comprehensive health and dental benefits with a significant portion of the premiums paid by the organization, short-term and long-term disability and life insurance, and 401k plan with match up to 6% after 1 year of service.
