In Solidarity Against Anti-Asian Racism

Solidarity against Anti-Asian racism coral text on blue background.

To those accustomed to privilege, equity can feel like oppression.

So, may those facing inequity stand in solidarity

against the true oppression of others.

The WOC Community stands against violence and racism towards Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. WOC was created to support, celebrate and champion all women of color in fundraising and philanthropy and we have lifted up our AAPI sisters since our inception.

The NYPD reported a near 2,000% increase in anti-Asian hate crimes in 2020 and Stop AAPI Hate received nearly 3,000 reports of anti-Asian discrimination from March - December 2020.

Since the beginning of last year’s racial justice movement, so many words have been spoken by so many people. They are often lovely, well-meaning, eloquent, but sometimes formulaic. However, WOC is not interested in words alone. So often in our society, the term “allyship” refers to a binary concept of black and white. We believe that allyship among women and people of color is of utmost importance as we strive toward a more just and equitable society. Therefore, we are putting forth efforts to explore partnership opportunities and are in the process of scheduling programming to open the dialogue around allyship and the actions we can take to support the AAPI community.

There are often so many words. Let’s work together to move into dialogue and action. Feedback from our community will help inform how we take steps forward.

In the meantime, WOC wants to shed a spotlight on our friends at the Museum of Chinese in America and what we consider to be one of the most impressive and comprehensive compilations of resources to aid in the quest of supporting the AAPI community and for the AAPI community itself to find resources for the challenges if currently faces.

You’ll hear from us again soon, but first, we want to hear from you. We welcome feedback, thoughts and ideas on how WOC can help. Please contact Christina at info@yfj-consulting.com to share your thoughts, using AAPI Action in the subject line.

In Solidarity,
Women of Color in Fundraising and Philanthropy (WOC)®
